During the 19th Century, the shores of Lake Maggiore were subject to massive transformations that, in just a few years, saw the continual substitution of the spontaneous local vegetation and agricultural crops with an almost uninterrupted sequence of villas and gardens.
It is against this special and propitious landscape that Verbania presents the only book fair in Italy that is entirely dedicated to the garden. Over 3,000 Italian and foreign titles published by over 450 editors present the garden in all its various aspects: from botany to architecture, from photography to art, from history to literature. A special section is dedicated to this year’s theme: A Journey into the English garden.
A Journey into the English garden
Love of gardens is a particularly English sentiment. Associated with it is not only a horticultural heritage that is constantly being enriched with plants and garden works, but also an abundant bibliographical production of books and manuals. Caring for a garden also leads to other collateral activities - be they artistic, manual, or simply pleasurable – all of which have the merit of being able to create valid social aggregation.
So, a journey into the English garden is a journey into the understanding of a reality that is a fine example of how to produce and present beauty, a discovery of places that are, at once, both important historical and artistic testimonies and also a source of personal well-being.
