Isola Madre Gardens

On Isola Madre, the biggest and most characteristic of the Borromeo Islands, stands the historic palace of the Borromeo family and an immense garden of rare plants and exotic flowers, where peacocks, parrots and pheasants roam free.

The garden of the island, in English style, was laid out at the beginning of the 19th century and, in an area of almost 8 hectares, it is home to a rare and surprising flora: azaleas and rhododendrons, camellias and pergolas of ancient wisterias.

The visitor can also find on Isola Madre, the largest Kashmir Cypress in Europe, as well as citrons and lemons, a magnificent collection of Hibiscus and Ginkgo Biloba.
